What can I say about this place? It's exactly the kind of spot that makes an Italian girl know she's living in the right neighborhood. Market has all the Italian specialties you can ask for. Pastas are excellent, cheeses and meats are top-notch. Still need to try the pizza but it looks thin and heavenly. The best part is the people you're buying it from. Love these guys.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! So why four stars??? I would give 4 1/2 just because of their hours. They close around 7:30pm, and are closed on Sundays, which I totally understand as this place appears to be family owned and operated. So it's inconvenient when you want pizza late at night or on football Sunday. I feel bad giving 4 stars, but just being honest in this review. Now to the good stuff...The pizza here is the best in this area hands down!!! Trust me, I live in this neighborhood and my husband and I tried them all!! We keep going back for the pizza, but they have other things you can try. The hero's look delicious, so next time we go we may split one, and a slice of course :-) You can also get Italian and other European products here, just a really cute shop, with great customer service!!

Had the margherita pizza. It was absolutely delicious with flavorful sauce and fresh mozzarella.

Rosario's is a staple in my Astoria restaurant rotation, and quite possibly my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. The pizza is always amazing and the sandwiches are made with legit cold cuts and cheeses that you won't get in most delis. If you're in the Ditmars area you should 100% give this place a try.

Whether it's the killer pizza or quality cheeses / meats / pastas they make in house, it's hard to argue the versatility of Rosario's Deli. The uber local vibe, friendly service, and their superior product makes this spot a charming old school gem of Astoria. No one should deprive themselves of the experience, especially those of you who live nearby. For those expecting a banging pizzeria, you've come to the wrong place. This is an Italian deli that just happens to offer pizza (among other wonderful edibles) and whatever pizza they have, they will eventually sell out of at the end of the day. That said, it's not a mind blowing slice but certainly a quality one that beats out most anything in the general radius. The appeal lies in the simplicity of the ingredients - which for these thin crust pies include just a smattering of sauce, cheese, and a delightful crunch to the crust. Both the pepperoni and the plain margherita get my approval anytime. The sandwiches deserve a mention as well. From hot parm to a killer cold Italian combo, they know exactly what they're doing. The wonderful aroma of fresh bread never ceases to amaze me, especially when combined with fresh mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, and some form of a quality cold cuts. Do not sleep on the chicken cutlet, it is among the most satisfying sandwiches in the borough. Then there are the imported products from Italy. Rosario's isn't unique in this regard, but they've done a great job of taking the guess work out of everything with the placement and layout within the store. Things are easy to find, prices are reasonable, and I never walk out of here without something wonderful.

  • Neha I.

A bit of a trek for me to make it out to Rosario's, but it's worth it! I come here for the imported cheeses, pasta, espresso coffee. They carry taleggio!

I'm in love, absolute love. Growing up in a small Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn, I've always been used to purchasing most of my groceries at the local Italian deli and was so thrilled to find an authentic (not overpriced, obnoxious Carroll Gardens stores that shall not be named) shop in my new nabe. Rosario's is manned by some of the nicest guys I've ever spoken to that I end up having 5 minute conversations with them whenever I go in. (And I hear my repressed Brooklyn accent come out in full effect, which is such a treat to me since I barely hear a Brooklyn/Queens accent in this city anymore.) They are the only place outside of Brooklyn that I've been to that carries one of my favorite sauces from Michael's Restaurant in Sheepshead Bay, and not only that but they serve THE BEST PIZZA in Astoria. I know you wouldn't think that since it's small and only have a few slices out at a time, but this pizza is so perfect it's sort of hard for me to not eat it every single time I pass it on the way to the train. It gets pretty insane on the weekends, though, so it's probably best to shop there midday if you can, or at least right after work.

quality deli meats, quality italian pastas, all important... but this review is solely based on the pizza.... wow their slice is like 2.25 but damn its amazing. their sauce is sweet yet salty in the right ratio and the cheese they use is so tasty. i wouldnt be surprised if they put illegal drugs in there cause im hooked. 5 stars all the way.

  • Jessica M.

Love this place! Their mozzarella cheese is the best I've ever had. Everything is very fresh and the people that work their are very friendly. If you are in the area and want a great sandwich, I highly recommend Rosario's.

The best fresh mozzarella in New York!

  • Michelle M.

This is a super cute Italian deli under the last stop of the N/Q Ditmars Blvd train station. I go here to find any italian specialty food item that i might have a craving for. They carry many of the best italian food imports not limited to but including truffle oil, olive oil, pasta, balsamic vinegar, and other canned and bottled food stuffs. But the GOOD STUFF is behind the counter. The BEST rice balls i have ever had are made here. Sandwiches, seafood salads, pasta salads and pizza are pretty good too... but if you ever find yourself here for the love of sweet baby jesus get yourself a rice ball!

  • Amy M.

I agreed with Amber's comment. The guy works here (Mr. Rosario himself?) is a character, and I just love the live conversation going on there with other native Astorians. Espresso coffee of all kinds are decently priced, all cold cuts are very nice. The very first time I visited here, the young deli guy made me his creation of "The Best" sandwich-I-would-def.-come-back. It was great, and I did come back after moved into the area. However, I ordered in a whole pizza one night, and as Mr. Rosario himself promised that it is fresh, it was not. I could tell from the way it is burned twice on the bottom that it was re-heated. I would recommended to go there directly to enjoy his mozzarella loaded pizza, by asking to make from scratch.

Mom and pop italian deli that has been in Astoria for as long as I can remember. Great Italian food.

  • Amanda H.

This is a great neighborhood deli! Very old-school New York Italian in every best possible way. Their made-to-order heroes are the best, and I love their cold bar offerings, from marinated artichokes and mushrooms to fresh mozzarella and other delectable delights. The service is great, always A-plus, and I sometimes even do light grocery shopping there, stocking up on coffee, oil and vinegar, a couple of sweets (Belgium chocolates, lemon-drop cookies, and Pizzelles, to name a few). Every time I visit folks off the Astoria-Ditmars stop on the N train I definitely take a detour trip here. Good times at a great location!

Do yourself a favor, and order a sandwich as proof this is the best grocer/deli in town. I most highly recommend a roast beef and provalone--because both the roast beef and provalone are outstanding here--on a fresh baked roll, or get an Italian sub and appreciate that it may be the first time you ever had fresh made mozarella on a sandwhich in your life--made on the premises, daily. Great food is half about the ingredients, and Rosario's has them as well as the other half of great food which is skill. Then note the price, about $4. Literally, the 'best deal in town.' Wait in line behind gourmet chefs and aged Italian master cook housewives at high traffic times. But only sometimes. If you're headed there the day before some big holiday you're guaranteed to wait, but it will be worth it. If you are waiting, it will most likely only be two or three people ahead of you, but they'll be stocking up for a real banquet, or have a list of ingredients they need for the week. I always say that if you buy it at Rosario's it's the best you could get, irrespective of whether it's Italian or not. Rosario is Italian, so the grocery is Italian, but they carry brands and items from many other countries--including Boar's Head if it's good enough. The number one thing chefs go in there for it seems is procciuto (spelling?). It's not overspiced or oversalted--the genuine article. At their root, they're grocers, the best grocers you'll find. And while it can certainly be labeled a gourmet Italian deli, they certainly don't build on that theme with high prices and slick presentation. Rosario's is a genuine, quality family place--the kind New York used to be famous for but most of which have gone big commercial (like Junior's of Brooklyn for instance). If you speak Italian or want to learn some, this would certainly be the place to get the sound of the language in your head. Anyway, I can't praise this place enough for the food as well as how neat, clean, and friendly it is.

The best Italian Deli Sandwich I've encountered in Astoria. Fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, roasted red peppers, all on a huge sandwich for only $7. It's so convenient being right off the subway. How can you not go?

    (5)
  • Melanie W.

They make the best sandwiches ever. Super big with thin sliced deli meat and fresh mozzarella they make in the back for only $6-7. I've also had the pizza which is a pretty good slice. I think he has the crust down pat, but the sauce was missing a little tang. I'm planning to go back and buy some deli meats to pack for lunch. I know others prefer Sal, Kris and Charlie's, but my heart belongs to Rosario.

    (5)
  • Jess L.

I cannot love this place more enough. They have the freshest foods and amazing bread and all these imported goodies and cakes and pastas, pans and boxed cakes hanging from the cieling. Most of the customers are little old men and women and speak italian and broken english, and it's adorable. It reminds me of my dad's side of the family and going to places like this in Brooklyn when I was a kid. The lines are longer around holidays naturally, but anything is worth the wait. the owner, rosarios always yells out "eh signorina!" and "ciao bella!", and talks with you while you wait. nice and friendly staff. i jsut wish they were open later, and on sundays!! also, BEST PIZZA!!

  • Lauren J.

I love Rosario's. My favorite person in this deli is the Italian gentleman who monitors business from his perch on a stool by the cash register, but the guys behind the counter give him a run for his money. Always courteous and friendly. Fresh mozzarella di bufala, excellent meats, and my heart is overjoyed by the pandoro and pannettone containers that hang from the ceiling. We are in pursuit of the elusive secret slice (also haven't yet tried their sandwiches). Their oils and vinegars aren't top of the line, but will do in a pinch. They stock dry goods there that I haven't seen outside of Italy. Excellent deli.

  • Audra W.

Man I love me some Rosarios. Their sandwiches are amazing! The tuna salad is the best I have ever had and the turkey provolone is wonderful as well. The sandwiches are so cheap and huge that they can easily be shared or saved. I have also had them warm me up one of their amazing potato croquettes which was divine. So glad to live down the street!!

  • Pamela M.

I am not Italian, but my best childhood friend is. I spent countless Sundays at her grandmothers house where there was macaroni, meatballs, salad, chicken cutlets, the whole shebang. I used to tell her grandmother every week that she made the best chicken cutlets ever and I meant it. I have never tasted anything like it since...until I found Rosario's! They have the (second) best chicken cutlets I've ever had in my life!! Also, I read one review that said they were pricey and I just don't understand that statement. A hero with chicken cutlets, melted fresh handmade mozzarella cheese, lettuce, sundried tomatoes, oil & vinegar will run you $6 flat! Maybe some of the grocery items are a bit pricier but a lot of stuff is imported. Their pizza is fabulous and the staff is always so friendly. Rosario's has become a weekly...and sometimes daily....staple of my diet!

  • Miah M.

Great NY style pizza, all sorts of imported Italian packaged goodies and fresh deli food. I always go for the simple but great cheese pie - great value as well.

  • Walter D.

One of my favorite places to eat! Italian food so authentic, you'd think you were in Italy! I always get the eggplant parmesan sandwich with fresh mozzarella and sun-dried tomatoes! For the price, $7, I have two meals! Awesome! They also have a lot of packaged goods that you can only get in Italy, so I feel like I am walking into another continent. Delicious deli, awesome and friendly service.

  • Amber B.

The little man who works here is the best thing I have seen in Astoria to date. He is a carbon copy of the cardboard man outside the store, and I can only assume he was the inspiration for said cut-out... That said, the sandwiches are incredible (huge! and cheap!), and the provolone is to die for. They have a ridiculous selection of cheeses and meats and chocolate- three of my favorite things on this planet. I can never, on good conscience, step foot in Subway again...

  • Bo Y.

My favorite deli- everything is really really fresh. I go there all the time to buy San Marzano tomatoes, fresh made mozarella (they make it there everyday), assorted meats, yummy sandwiches and Casinelli spinach ravioli. Prices are decent, it sure beats Eataly.

  • Maria N.

I'm not sure how I would deal with not having Rosario's in my neighborhood. It's the place for delicious cold cuts (admittedly some employees cut cold cuts better than others), an amazing selections of dry pasta and their sicilian olives are a staple in my house. Service is always friendly and fast. I want to love the fresh mozzerella, but I never do. And their bread is just okay - go across the street for that. :)

Well, yet again you yelpers were right, this place is amazing. This is a small deli type place, very well organized, it has a certain something to it, the place just has a natural flow. I went to grab a slice of pizza, actually i got two. Let me tell you that the pizza was incredible, i wonder if they make their own dough, because, it seemed like i was eating at one of those fancy coal oven places; yet i didn't see a coal oven, they were using a conventional pizza oven. Let me describe the pizza itself, Perfect crust, not burnt, with the most amazing sauce, i could tell it was top notch sauce, it was delicious. The cheese was fresh mozzarella, possibly homemade, it wasn't salty, yet complemented the sauce in such a way that makes you wonder if this isn't the best pizza in town. I must mention that the service was great, and it could get hectic, but they always kept it professional. Rosario's, hell of a pizza, i will be back.

Pizza, coffee and sandwiches are fantastic, plus you can get all the Italian groceries you need to make your own feast. (Plus the cheapest Illy coffee I've seen anywhere)

  • Scott B.

The pizza. The lattes. The awesome people that work there. The homeade motz uh rel. This small Italian grocery is spectacular. The only downside to this gem of Ditmars is there is always one or two grumpy rude douche bag coustomers that cut in line or take forever or are rude to the nice people behind the counter.

  • Jason F.

Rosario's is simply the best. I love the pizza. It's so simple, but so good. My fiance loves all the Italian items they sell, especially the wide variety of cookies. But by far the best thing in the entire place is the fresh mozzarella. It's so moist, soft and has the perfect taste. When you buy a ball of it that is still warm, HOLY &$#@. I could eat it everyday, on sandwiches, on crackers, on pizza, on cereal, on ice cream, etc. It is that good.

    (5)
  • Cara L.

Rosario's Deli is a pretty good spot for a better than average sandwich. Me personally i tend to go for the chicken cutlet with romaine lettuce and salt, onions, peppers, mayonnaise, mustard, hold the tomato. lol If your not into a loaded sandwich like I am try their custom salads and grab a drink on the go. This is pretty good spot if your having a busy day at work and not a lot of time for a lunch break!

Just stopped by Rosario's walking in didn't know what to order so I can bring down to Astoria park with me. So the guy behind the counter suggested the Italian combo OMG. When i saw the size of the sandwich I flipped it was huge!!! But I couldn't walk out without some chocolate covered almonds and a octopus salad. When I opened the sandwich I couldn't believe how much meat was in there and I took a bite I was in heaven this had to be the most amazing huge sandwich I ever had and the price was also amazing I think I paid $7.00 two of us could have ate the sandwich because I couldn't do it. Great job guys great job oh yeah the salad was excellent !!! Thank you!,

  • Henry D.

The pizza is very good and the sandwiches are great. The bread is always fresh and crispy. They use high quality meat and cheeses. They also have chicken and eggplant parm sandwiches. Every time I go there, Rosario's is there. He runs a quality food shop. I love their Italian combo sandwich with the fresh roasted peppers with garlic pieces. The only complaint I have is the line is slow but it's because the guys behind the counter are taking personal care of each individual customer.

  • Diana E.

Fresh mozzarella ball for which to make pizza (with dough from Rose & Joe's, across the street) - didn't make it onto pizza - made it into everyone's mouths before making it to pizza. Ah well, $5 made everyone happy.

  • S K.

Only four stars because I think this place is a little pricey, especially for astoria, but if you go, I would try the following: - Pizza (obviously) - Prosciutto - Sopressata - Mozzarella And then all the cookies and chocolates they have. And the canned tomatoes (for cooking your own almost-as-good sauces). Once I bought truffle oil from here and it was obviously stored well, which is important for truffle oil. Basically, I have yet to buy an item from Rosario's and have it taste anything less than wonderful. But the best part of Rosario's is Rosa himself. The friendly Italian gentleman who calls you sweetie as he makes a fresh pizza pie just before closing because you look tired and he knows all you need is one amazing slice. Who jokes with you in barely comprehensible English while his (I can only assume) nephews and sons serve you delicious deli meats and cheeses. He is awesome. Even if the food was terrible, I would still be a regular, just for his company. Fortunately, the food is great.

  • Lindsey M.

There service is great and their pizza slices are to die for. Only two bucks a slice and topped with their own fresh mozzarella.

    (5)
  • Hardkandy H.

Rosario is there and he is a character. You can even talk in Italian with him ! The cold cuts, olives, cheeses are all very good and moderately priced (compared to some store in the City). You can find also lots of kinder eggs, barette, and loacker !!!

    (4)
  • Amanda T.

They have the best deli on the face of this earth. No one can get any cleaner than him. They slice everything just the way I like it. Paper thin without a problem. The pizza is also amazing at this location. He doesn't have pies after pies sitting there. Once one pie is finished he is off to make another. Mr. Rosario is a character. One day he cut a slice for my friend and cut a tiny piece off for his self. Lol... I guess he needs to nibble off of customers because his wife doesn't want him eating fattening things.

best homemade mozzarella anywhere. their home made food is out of this world including their home made pizza!!! great sausage, meat...best ciabbata bread too.. great staff and rosario is always so welcoming. love all their italian products. phenomenal vodka sauce they sell along with their own marinara sauce. then only thing, i wish they sold milk =)

  • Tara G.

Ok so we went back to day to Rosarios and I am humbled. The mistake that was made was the refridgeration, which I thought might be the problem. Had we let it properly come back to room temp, it would have been more moist & salty. Today we bought 2 fresh balls and tasted them immediately - DELICIOUS. I've read the cheese can be stored in water in the fridge, with a tablespoon of salt added and will keep for up to a week this way, which is perfect since we need it for Christmas in 2 days. I love Rosarios! The service it fantastic and though the line was almost out the door, they were efficient and courteous.

  • Rita A.

Ask Rosario. Ask Rosario about anything food related, or about anything at all, and you will have a nice visit . I made the wonderful choice of asking Rosario what cheese I should buy to have with a little wine and bread. He said, "Piave, of course!" He was right. Nice bite, nice chew, just plain lovely cheese. You can get a good cappuccino here too, and Rosario's fresh mozz is one of the best. In this neighborhood, you want good food, you follow the older ladies with the shopping carts and the firemen, and these guys go elbow to elbow at Rosario's.

great store for hard to find italian/ethnic products and other gourmet snacks. great prosciutto, imported cheeses and delicious italian food. ALSO, GREAT PIZZA.

  • Sam R.

I was taken to Rosario's by a woman who grew up in the neighborhood and had the pleasure of meeting Rosario on my first visit. Their selection of Italian delicacies is extensive, and their cold cuts and cheeses are really awesome. Be prepared to get pushed out of the way by old-school Astorians however, especially Italian-Astorians, as they have first dibs on service in Rosarios. As a Jew from Brooklyn, I had to wait quite a while for service.

i have lived in central Florida since 1983, but as an ethnic Italian from Blairsville, pa, i know homemade authentic QUALITY Italian food. yesterday, my husband (a native jewish Astorite), bought cooked eggplant slices and OMG we just arrived back to orange grove territory and ate the FANTASTICO eggplant with mozzarrilla and sauce. we just made a verbal committment to each other that when we return we definitely will bring back more. as an aside, for the last few years we've brought back a dozen slices of Rose and Joe's pizza, but after eating a slice each of rosario's we made another verbal committment to bring back 1/2of our pizza stash from each place!

I have been on the hunt for authentic rice balls and I decided to come here because it was recommended by many Yelpers. So far, I've been here twice for rice balls only. They were fresh; however, I felt that they were lacking in the taste department. The rice balls could use more sauce, cheese and some salt. They cost $3 each, but I wouldn't mind slightly paying more if the taste improved. Nonetheless, I would get it again if I was in a pinch.

Best slice of pizza in NYC. I don't know what I would do without living so close to Rosario's. It's a cute, family-owned business with the highest quality food and products. The pizza and handmade fresh mozzarella are not to be missed. Along with any of the other prepared food. Classic Italian style cuisine that is so fresh and flavorful. Love the food and service. The people behind the counter are always so sweet and genuinely happy to be at work.

Got a sandwich here this past weekend to take to work on Monday. I kept it easy with just some proscuitto di Parma. They didn't have a sharp cheese for slicing, so the counterman talked me into their homemade fresh mozzarella, which wasn't exactly a hard sell as I know it's great. After selecting my loaf of bread, the counterman was also nice enough to suggest packing the mozzarella and roasted red peppers separately to avoid it turning soggy. Rosario was around as well, as always, but luckily the rest of his staff are just as good. I paid and left to have a great dinner nearby. The sandwich held up great. the proscuitto di Parma was applied heavily and was high quality stuff. The bread was great, as you could expect it to be by their pizza--which is now offered by the pie by the way! The mozzarella was as great as I remember. The roasted red peppers were good, but boy do they use plenty of garlic! I put this thing together on Monday, and boy were my co-workers jealous. With the toppings applied judiciously by yours truly, it was an epic sandwich. It was also easily big enough to save half for the next day, and I am by NO means have a small appetite. The sandwich with everything cost $10 and change. If I bought it in Midtown, it would've been $15, less than half the size, made with cheaper ingredients, and I would've gotten a side of shitty service to go with it. I wish I lived nearby here just so I could be a regular. You really can't beat a place like Rosario's. Between here and L'Incontro, I'll be back a lot sooner than last time.

Old school Italian deli. They roast the roast beef themselves. Rosario's also has other prepared food, thin-crust pizzas, and a variety of Italian specialty items. I only wish they had more charcuterie items. In a nutshell, while they don't have everything they have enough of many things not ordinarily found in supermarkets to keep shoppers coming back.

Been craving a meatball sandwich for a while but didn't want to pay ten-eleven bucks to satisfy my need. Finally, went to Rosarios and got the meatball parm on a hero and OMG! The meat, the cheese amd the bread were all one for all of five minutes as I gobbled it all up. And oh, it was only seven bucks. Enjoy!

As I've said in previous reviews, I'm a tough critic when it comes to all things Italian. Rosario's gets my stamp of approval. It's a great little Italian deli/market with a good product selection and delicious prepared food. I have had a sandwich here and I was very satisfied. The cold cuts are good, the mozzarella is fresh and the semolina bread is fantastic. I'm also a huge fan of their rice balls, one of the best I've ever had (don't tell my grandmother!)

Rosario's is by far the best Italian Deli. Before finding out I had to go on a gf diet/lifestyle 3 years ago we used to get sandwiches and go to Astoria Park. This place is amazing!! The meats, cheeses breads etc are just so tasty! They use the best quality products. My husband and I stop in from time to time to see if they have added any gluten free breads/rolls/wraps for me but sadly they haven't added any yet. Everybody Eats in Brooklyn really needs to pitch this place so we gluten free peeps can still enjoy Rosario's!! So many place in Astoria/LIC are getting on the gf thing so I truly hope Rosario's figure it out soon. They have The Sandwich Bar, NYCBCH, and Bareburger surrounding them and they all offer GF products. That said I need a Rosario sandwich so badly. Ok Rosario's after watching Orange is the New Black and walking by your shop every weekend- my mouth is watering...... Please offer Gluten Free Bread, Rolls, Wraps etc! If you need help souring product I can't assist you! Please contact everybody eats because they have amazing gluten free bread products and chocolate chip cookies:) yelp.com/biz/everybody-e…

This Italian deli/grocery houses secretly in the back one of the best slices in NYC. The front deli has a large selection of freshly homemade eatings like lasagna, riceballs, fried eggplant, antipasta salads. Behind the counter your can see ceiling high cooler of deli meats to choose from. If you have time for lunch the mortadela sandwich is delicious. However a large seller are the slices found all the way in the back. What sets this pizza apart is that it uses fresh mozzarella that gives it an extra kick you can't get from sauce or crust. Even when melted it looks different than most other pizza mozzarella. Combine that with a thin foldable flaky crust and you have yourself one of the best slices you can find in the city.

Just OK. I've had really good sandwiches from here but also mediocre ones. I'm Italian, and I do my meat/cheese shopping in little Italy in the BX. Rosario's is fine when I'm around. But this is what prompts me to write my review: ordered in advance one day so I could drive by during my lunch break and pick stuff up for my team. Two of my sandwiches were wrong (realized when I got back), one was missing completely. While an older man was yelling at a younger man about his mistake, (for some reason also making him do the mental math for my order that took him about a solid two minutes) I got a $115 ticket for double parking, right in my face. "Next time, order before and we'll bring it outside." Suck it Rosario's, you and your mediocre deli. No more sammys for me.

Awesome sandwich spot. My one qualm is I wish they actually had a sandwich menu to help me decide what to order. Just maybe the popular ones.

I go to Rosario's to buy meat and cheese weekly. The products they sell are top quality, and the employees are very pleasant. There are other products in the store, and it's fun to look around. I really love that they slice the meat and cheese thinly because it's so much easier to create the perfect balance in my sandwich this way. There are very secret slices in the back, and you'll probably have to ask for them. These slices are yummy and a great price ($2). Thin crust pizza with fresh mozzarella. Perfect snack.

This place was on my list for a while, and it did not disappoint. This is the place where you would never no there was pizza unless you looked it up or someone told you. I am not really into the fresh non-salted mozzarella with lots of sauce pizza, I prefer either NY style or the personal Neapolitan style, but this was was really good. The sauce really made the pie and I think they used salted mozz. so it had a much better taste. The slice was hot crispy and just plain good. I should have got two slices. I also got four slices of sopressata and put it on the slice.... That's the way to do it.

Good Deli place. Typical queens Italian Deli. They have assortment of cheeses and meats. They carry various lavazza coffee which I go for to work with my expresso machine at home. Olives and speciality Italian items. Looking for a special ingredient to make an authentic Italian dinner. This is the place to go. Good service.

Pizza was unsalted and took over 30 minutes to be ready for pickup. Mozzarella was overrated. Long line of people and full of overpriced items that you can get cheaper elsewhere. No big deal and not worth the trek out.

Please don't go here. I don't want you taking a space in front of me in the line. Let me tell you--I used to eat meat and I would load up at this place. If you're going to load up on deli meat then why not do it at a spectacular place that invites gluttony and salted meats they hand carve for you on command? But that was my past life. I'm vegetarian now, but knowing that Rosario's is committed to lovely things I went in one day after a long hiatus and had one of the guys there craft me a "vegetarian" sandwich. Yes! I dared to go in there and spit in the face of all Italians by stating that I wanted to switch it up and dare to be different. And you know what? I did the right thing. This is what I now have in my lap at least once very two weeks: Layers of eggplant, red pepper, brocoliini, mushrooms, pickles, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, with a sprinkling of vinegar and oil. It's a maelstrom of briny goodness imploding in your mouth. If I were Rosario's I'd call it the veggie bomb... Of course if you wanted to, you could ask them to throw some provolone on there, I would, If I was still twiddling with dairy substances. Anyway, go there. Maybe you need a break from all that sausage, and have them make you a "vegetarian" sandwich on a hero. You will not be disappointed.

The boys who work behind the counter here are the nicest! They have the best fresh mozzarella. I didn't know what fresh mozzarella was until I had it from here. They make them in little mounds and when you open the wrapping and slice into the cheese there are milk droplets that come off it. Now that's fresh! There is always a line for a reason. Don't go anywhere else. Skip Key Food and get your fresh deli meats here.

After a depressing slice at some crappy place near Battery Park I thought I'd never get a quintessential NY slice. Luckily I took a chance on this random Italian deli in the Queens/Astoria area. First of all, great little deli with good prices. (they had Toblerones for a buck apiece!) As others may have mentioned, you can only get a few slices at a time, but mmm, delicious. And because they have a full deli of fresh meats you can pretty much have your choice of toppings, all top shelf in my opinion. Best of all? Not touristy at all, no 45 minute wait, and Rosario is one cool cat in my book. Summation: go get a slice ya dummy! And a sammich! And a Toblerone! Hahah

  • Tim S.

This place sells the best fresh mozzarella ever, go here, buy a ball of it cut it up into big pieces and just nom on it alone, tasting its barely salty goodness. Forme Rosario's would get 4-5 stars on this magical mozzarella alone. However they also have a giant selection of all things Italian (pasta, coffee, jams, pizza). You absolutely must get a slice of the plain pie they cook individually in the back using their famous fresh mozzarella. It's really the perfect plain slice, you must, YOU MUST!! Also they sell the pastas from Cassinelli down the block which makes some of the best pastas ever but closes so early you can never make it there in time. Go here, buy pasta, sauce, mozzarella, potato salad, find a bottle of wine elsewhere and then enjoy life.

The best deli/place for Italian products and cold cuts. I would not get my prosciutto from anywhere else. The guys behind the counter are extremely nice and friendly, so it's hard not to walk in every time I pass by!

great experience here buying fresh mozz and proscuitto for my pizza. The staff was helpful and atetntive, making sure the slices were to my liking. I love the atmopshere of the authentic italian shop. I hear they also make mean sammies. Prices were extremely reasonable and did I mention how amazing the food was?!

  • Kelly S.

Awesome Italian deli. Good selection of prepared salads, cheese, and frozen pasta. Oh, and their cheese slice is amazing. I always go for their mozzarella, it's reasonably priced and some of the most fresh tasting you can get in the area. Usually I eat half of it before any of it makes it into the food I'm cooking...

    (5)
  • Ekaterina G.

Be careful about trying their house-made fresh Mozzarella balls! Once you try it, you will never be able to go back to the supermarket version of it. The house-made cold cuts are also great.

    (5)
  • Charlene J.

Rosario's is full of all-Italian products, including a full deli, but the reason I went was their fresh warm mozzarella balls, ready in the afternoon. If you've never had fresh mozzarella, your mind will be blown. It's almost salt-buttery. When I lived in Astoria, I would often pick one up on my way home and eat it on the way. Worth a trip!

best italian deli I've found in astoria-- very nice and knowledgeable guys behind the counter. Great place to get an italian sub with FRESH mozzarella and roasted peppers. Take it with you to the park when it gets warm.

An Italian/ Polish/ Russian deli will ALWAYS get high votes for me especially if they carry my favorite brand of sopressata and dried sausage (Alps). Modest selection of cheese (in fact the piave I ordered had just a touch of mold on it when I unwrapped it) and when the sopressata was sliced, he forgot to take off the skin. Still a great place nonetheless.

Wow! Another great sandwich deli that can give the top contenders in the area a run for their money. This place is as Italian as you can get. Everything's fresh from the mozzarella to the bread. And yes those "secret" slices everyone's been raving about live up to their reviews. I usually have one while waiting for my sandwich order to be fulfilled (the lines can get long at times). This place definitely needs to be revisited multiple times in order to truly grasp the greatness of all their items (specialty groceries included). Now THAT'S amore!

Wonderful family run old-school NY Italian deli. While the store is well stocked with Italian foodstuffs, I come here for the sandwiches. There isn't really a menu, so you pretty much can ask for whatever you want. The staff here is friendly and helpful, so don't be afraid to ask for some suggestions if you going freestyle freaks you out. I usually ask for some combination of fresh mozz, sun dried tomatoes, eggplant, roasted red peppers and artichokes. Sometimes I'll replace the eggplant with salami, but for the most part I try to stay veg when its I can do so without compromising flavor and wholesomeness, and you will never have a problem feeling satisfied and full after eating one of their creations. Often times, I'll eat one half, and save the other for later, as one whole sandwich is usually too much. Another great item at Rosario's is the pizza. It may rank among the better slices around, and certainly worth a try. If its busy, and you're looking at a wait, sometimes you can take down a slice before you're order is ready. I'm really glad to have these guys in the 'hood. They're a great group of guys, and really take pride in making some great food. Do yourself a favor, and eat well while supporting a great local business at one of the last places around where you can get a great meal (or two ;) for well under $10.

Stopped into this place on my last trip to Astoria. Overall it is a nice place, but comparing it to some of the larger Italian markets we have on the Island it falls short for me. There are lots of imported pastas and canned good, deli items and sausages. The staff is friendly. My gripe is the size and selection is not very impressive.

I just had the pizza which was pretty good. I was also impressed by their wide assortment of products.

  • J S.

After hearing raves about the place, I finally went by today. I was overwhelmed by the selection, but one of the men behind the counter was incredibly helpful. I told him I was putting together a party platter and wasn't sure what to get. (I know, obnoxious - but as I said I was overwhelmed.) He was friendly and didn't rush me at all, offering suggestions on meats, cheeses, how much I should get and even how to serve it. But best of all, he gave me generous samples to help my make my selections. He made me a lifelong customer with the taste of their insanely delicious prosciutto! It's not inexpensive, but the quality and customer service here is incredible. I'm very eager to go back and stock up once more.

This place makes me want to be Italian so I can hang out with the owner and the employees after hours. I've always walked by Rosarios for the past 3 years but was inspired by all the little italian ladies that come in and out all the time. I tried the chicken parm hero and I was amazed. Definitely beats a sandwich from subway. I also bought some fresh mozzarella and some vacuum packed gnocchi. AMAZING. I can't wait to come back for a slice of pizza and to try all the chocolate goodies. Their variety of pastas, oils, coffee, and other imported goods is amazing. This place makes me feel so happy to support small independent shops like these. I'll never go anywhere else for my Italian deli needs. Try it!

Wow! This place is becoming a bit of an addiction...and I almost let the cat out of the bag expressing these accolades to my Italian boyfriend, who usually cooks for me. If not for the simply prepared, fabulous food and expert assortment of imported Italian goods with which to stock your kitchen, go for the service!!! These boys are the most well-mannered and professional as any you will find behind a counter.

  • Jim K.

Rosario's shop is filled with quality Italian products, all of which were personally approved by Rosario himself. And here you will find one of the crunchiest, softest pizza crusts in New York City. One day I asked him why his pizza were so good. "I do it for fun, because it's fun. And I sell what I'd like to eat.", he says. And I've been returning to the shop ever since.

  • Andrew M.

Classic Italian salumeria, this place rocks. The pizza is incredible, the cold-cuts are fresh and all top-shelf (Boars Head or imported from Europe) and the antipasti/bread/prepared foods are just delicious. The place has a very old-school feel, the kids behind the counter are always talking about their personal lives or soccer or teasing each other in Italian, which can be annoying if you're in a rush but quite refreshing (and funny) if you've got time to spare. The chicken cutlets are great, meatballs are great, lasagna is great, the fresh mozzarella is great, the semolina bread is great, I could pretty much go on and on. I already mentioned the pizza, it's outstanding. Call ahead and ask for a pie, because sometimes you'll go in there and they're out of it, and when they make it fresh-to-order, it's going to be a 40-45 minute wait. Still worth it though. I love places like this, they're charming and remind me of my childhood, and I would ALWAYS prefer to support the neighborhood "mom-and-pop" store over the big-box places. This place is sooooooo good when you're entertaining or having a get-together, my guests are ALWAYS blown away with the freshness and taste of the cold-cuts and antipasti, it's way better than you can get anywhere else. Try it, I'm sure you'll be back for seconds.

  • Adam K.

Great Italian specialties to be had here, but what brings me here most often is the pizza. It is AMAZING and is, in my book, the best slice in this part of Astoria, hands down. Trust me. Go get a slice there -- it's worth the wait in line (which is often slow-moving ... such is the price of popularity).

I miss Rosario's, and writing this review is making me want to plan my next trip back to NY. I used to go to Rosario's for their prosciutto and fresh mozzarella. Their mozzarella is so fresh that it is still warm when you buy it. Add a little Italian bread and you have a sandwich that doesn't need ANYTHING else to be absolutely delicious. I am ashamed to say that I have never tried their pizza, but that is a must for my next visit, as the reviews about it are quite convincing.

Okay, so I (finally) tried sandwitch. Awesome. I had Italian (couldn't be any more creative), meat was fresh, bread was tasty, vinegar was just right fravor... Love it.

Ahh, Rosario's. Let's consider this review a love letter to my favorite deli in Queens. You want a great sandwich? Go here. You want a damn fine slice? Go here. You want diverse European grocery? Go here. Honestly, I could pine on about the strengths of this place. He has an extensive collection of olive oils and vinegars, a massive variety of macaroni, and a fairly sizable aisle devoted to Croatian and Eastern European food. Not to mention the imported meats & cheeses from around the world. It should also be noted that he carries a good selection of Cassinelli ravioli (an excellent homemade pasta maker from around the corner on 23rd St. with less than desirable hours). And then there's the mozzarella. The mozzarella is, hands down, one of the best you'll find in New York City. Bold statement. 100% truth. If you haven't checked Rosario's by now, you're missing out on a gem.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes.
